Welcome to our organization
Dipo Kodundo was formed in the year 2004 by a group of enthusiastic women of faith as a self-help group spear-headed by Ruth Jael A. Owiti (Mrs). To date, Dipo-Kodundo has grown into a local community based organization and has built an orphanage home.
The group's objectives at its inception was to address the problem of orphanhood in the location by intiating income generating activities to sustain these vulnerable orphans. Currently the group has over 200 orphans, out of these, 20 are in the orphanage home, and the rest are staying in the homes of their foster parents.
In order to improve the living standard of orphans, the group engages in income generating activities such as tailoring, knitting and horticultural farming.
Background
Ruth was born in Seme Katieno Kojwang Village, Maseno Division, Kisume District, Nyanza Province, in Kenya. Most of her lifetime as a girl, she used to stay with her mother at home and therefore she went to a local school at home in Kisumu Rural.
Her mother used to stay with many boys and girls at home. Most of these children were total orphans. She used to see her mum providing them with food, clothing and finally marrying for them and she used to make sure that they stayed well with their families. So this left Ruth with a lot to think about. Sometimes she would think that maybe her mum had a lot of cows and food to feed them, and even her father was also happy with the work of that old woman. One day her mother called her and told her that God had spoken to her saying, "Do to others as you would like them to do to you", these are orphans and God loves them, so we must love them also.
